laundry drum systems are similar to
movable drain systems, with the addition
of a surge tank to accommodate large
outflows of water into the system. note
that this is not a storage tank, it is just
there to allow the irrigation/emitters time
to catch up with water supply flowing into
the system. washing machine discharge
flows into a tank, usually a 55-gallon
plastic drum located just outside the
house. from there it is distributed in the
landscape by means of a hose, which is
periodically moved to different irrigation
locations in the yard (mulch basins).

this is a great system for renters since it
can be installed with little or no permanent
modification to the house or grounds. it is
a very simple and inexpensive system but
it requires a fair amount of dedication to
move the hose after every load or two.
